Firstly, travel was an essential part of my summer vacation. I had the opportunity to visit some beautiful cities with my family. We went to the seaside city of Qingdao. The moment I set foot on the golden beach, I was deeply attracted by the vast expanse of the blue sea meeting the sky. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was like a symphony of nature. I participated in various water sports, such as swimming and surfing. Surfing was particularly exciting. At first, I found it quite challenging to balance on the surfboard, but with the help of a professional coach, I gradually got the hang of it. Every time I successfully caught a wave and rode it, a sense of accomplishment filled me. In addition, we also visited the famous Tsingtao Brewery. Witnessing the entire beer brewing process and tasting the freshest beer right at its birthplace was an unforgettable experience. This trip not only allowed me to relax my body and mind but also broadened my horizons, enabling me to learn more about different cultures and customs.
Secondly, I dedicated a considerable amount of time to reading during the vacation. I had planned to read a few classic books that I had been longing to read for a long time. One of them was “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. The vivid characters and intricate plot captivated me from the beginning. Through the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, I gained a deeper understanding of love, pride, and the complexities of human relationships in the 19th century English society. I would spend hours every day immersed in the book, sometimes laughing at Elizabeth's witty retorts, other times sighing over the misunderstandings between the two main characters. Reading this book improved my English proficiency, especially in terms of vocabulary and writing styles. Moreover, it made me think more profoundly about human nature and social etiquette. For example, it showed how first impressions could be deceptive and how important communication and understanding were in maintaining good relationships.
Thirdly, I actively participated in community volunteer activities. There was a local library that needed help organizing a summer reading program for children. I volunteered to assist them. I helped design fun reading activities, such as treasure hunts based on book stories and puppet shows performed by volunteers. Seeing the children's enthusiastic participation and their joy in reading brought me great satisfaction. I also shared my favorite childhood books with them and encouraged them to develop a love for reading. This volunteer experience taught me the importance of giving back to society and how small actions could have a positive impact on others' lives. Finally, I spent some time learning new skills. I took an online cooking class and learned how to make traditional Italian dishes, such as pizza and pasta from scratch. The process of making pizza dough, preparing the sauce, and adding various ingredients was both interesting and rewarding. When I tasted the delicious pizza I made by myself, I felt a sense of pride. Learning this new skill not only enriched my leisure time but also gave me a chance to try something different. I also learned some basic photography techniques, such as composition and lighting. I practiced by taking photos of the beautiful scenery around my home during sunset and of the plants in my garden.
